Rated 3 out of 5 by DGREG from Have a lot of potential BUT some glaring issues... Fit, comfort, traction, and toe protection are all phenominal on the up or flat stretches of trail BUT...the primeknit lower lacks support for the midfoot and forefoot for more steep or technical stretches. My first day out I took them up Table Mountain in Grand Teton NP (12mi and 4k vertical feet) and they were great on the way up but as we descended the shortcomings became very clear. Despite a perfect fit the primeknit was unable to keep the foot in position as my feet spent 7mi sliding forward and smashing into the front of the shoe. Needless to say my feet were sore for days and I shudder to think how much worse it would have been with 50lbs on my back. The same lack of forefoot support also lets you down on rocky off axis technical stretches as the foot will want to slide laterally clear off the sole. These may sound like minor issues but for long days or mutliple day trips in the mountains they can add up to a rough experience. Dont think I will be able to pull them out again for anything other than the most casual day hikes which is sad because that is not what they were purchased for and they aint cheap. If Adidas is listening - you are close but you need some sort of structure or frame in the midfoot, forefoot, and instep to maintain heel retention and keep the foot centered in the shoe. Otherwise they will never gain traction with more serious hikers and backpackers. You cannot rely on primeknit to maintain the structure of this type of hiker. PS: Size down at least a half size - I always wear 9 and had to return for a 8.5

Rated 5 out of 5 by Sawtooth from Phenomal Shoe all around Where to begin... I could not be happier with this shoe. The style is on point and I like the elastic tighter ankle cuff as it helps to keep debris out of your shoe. The comfort is suprisingly good. I feel a lot of support while wearing these but I have never had a shoe that still feels so cushy while being supportive. It almost has a springy feel to it. Really noticaable at the end of the day when you would be trudging around in standard shoes and really starting the feel the weight of your pack.

Rated 5 out of 5 by juanb from Awesome, light, breathable hiking boot. My Lowa Renegate GTX were on their list miles, and I wanted to try something lighter, and more breathable, suitable for warm, dry weather. I've had these Terrex Free Hiker boots for a few weeks, and I'm really satisfied. These are more comfortable, breathable, lighter and nicer looking. I've used them for light hiking, carrying a 40lb backpack for short distances in even terrain, and they feel supportive, with good traction. I'm never going back to Gore-Tex shoes unless there's rain or snow. Think of these are more stable, supportive trail runners. The knit material is not strong enough to hold your foot in place when you come down steep hills. Your foot will tend to slide forward or to the side more than with other more conventional hiking boots, like the Lowa Renegade. Still, I much prefer these for the casual to moderate hiking sessions. Fit: I ordered these online three times, before I decided on a half size down from what I usually wear. They are roomy in the toe box. I cannot yet comment on durability.
