Rated 4 out of 5 by from My new favorite winter shoe For me the main benefit of this shoe is the extra insulation factor, it also makes the shoe have a very solid feel. I did have to size up from a 13 > 14 specifically for the EPS. Creek crossing are less of a worry but I did manage to overload the tongue and some water did get in. Traction on the pedals is supreme as usual. Hike-a-Bike is generally ok but as a winter specific shoe it is tricky in wet muddy conditions. Overall very happy with these in fact I purchased the low version as well for sunnier winter days. Wishlist: Fully sealed tongue, shoe lace bungee, smart simple traction in toe area for muddy hike a bike sections. Pedals: RF Atlas and Oneup Bike: EVIL Following

Rated 5 out of 5 by from another winning shoe freerider hightop EPS shoes: good fit. I ordered my usual size for riding. they fit perfect with a pair of smart wool socks. first ride was cold. my feet were warm, but not hot on my toes. never felt like I was sweaty. they are slightly stiffer than the low tops, I think because of ankle and simply more material. comfortable to pedal. no hot spots breaking in new shoes. splashed through a stream and several puddles, and my feet stayed dry. lack of vent holes and leather uppers are a good combo for winter! I'm very happy with these shoes.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from sole wear the insulation and overall ankle support of this shoe is outstanding, I have ridden all winter long and with a good pair of winter socks you can have warm toes all the way down to -30c, amazing grip on the pedals but slippery like a skating rink on any wet or snowy surface. my major gripe is that the soles wear out fast, i am on my second set (first one was warrantied) and in both cases the soles on the shoes where the pedal pins sit wear out and develop holes that lead to chunks of the rubber sole ripping off. Adidas will not accept a warranty claim on a replacement set of shoes so with this pair I am out of luck. if there was any other shoe on the market that was insulated and as grippy as the eps I would buy it over these in s second.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Comfy functional sturdy I got these after falling in love with my free rider highs which are the best shoes I ever did wear. These bad boys are a little stiffer than the non eps version just because the material is a more structured leather without the softer fabric. They are not so hot that they are uncomfortable for early fall weather or on longer trail rides, they are just as light and way more water proof. I have not had cold weather to play in so I can’t say how chilly these kicks are good for.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Best winter shoes for riding and casual Have been using these on and off the bike for two winter seasons now and they are still going strong. No issues, other that the sole is starting to wear (which is normal for everyday use), so I'm going to get another pair for this winter.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Returned. Yet to receive refund or replacement. Great shoes, I own a pair of the free riders (in a female, but prefer the men’s shoes for size and comfort) with the lower cut already, but the sizing in the high tops wasn’t consistent and rubbed the back of my heel the second I put them on. I returned this item and haven’t heard anything back from adidas outdoor...

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Finally Warm Feet Been riding with FiveTens for years, but always had to double or triple layer socks on cold rides and my feet would still freeze. The Freerider EPS is considerably warmer and although I haven't had the chance to test them on a super cold (right around freezing) ride yet, I know that my feet will fair much better with them. Same great grip that you expect with the Freeriders. Once you ride flat pedals with these shoes, you won't ever want to ride with anything but a FiveTen shoe.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Happy Feet I usually don't like riding when the temps start getting close to freezing, even low 40s(F) because I don't enjoy losing circulation in my toes, which happens quite frequently to me. Putting these shoes on I was able to feel my toes the entire day and keep my feet dry in chilly temps that previously would've resulted in certain loss of feeling in the first 30 min. Now I don't need to put plastic bags around my feet any more in a futile attempt to keep them alive in their own jerry-rigged waterproof sauna. I can just grab these beauts from the shelf, pop them on, and go out for a rip in the crisp beautiful woods. It goes without saying that they have the wonderful stickiness of 5-10s on flats. It's also the first hightop bike shoe I've had but so far this is a positive, it helps my feet feel that much more cozy on a chilly day and also adds an increase in the feeling of invincibility due to the extra protection around the ankle nubbins. If you have struggles with cold feet and are typically bummed about not being able to ride your bike in that awkward chilly phase of the seasons between bike and snowboard season, then do yourself a favor and pop on a pair of these!
